Kara İnci, meaning “Black Pearl” in Turkish, is more than just a handbag,  it is a piece of heritage with a story to tell.

Handcrafted from an authentic vintage Turkish heybe (saddlebag), traditionally used to carry belongings across the Anatolian countryside, this unique creation gives new life to a textile rich in history and character.

Once part of everyday life in rural Anatolia, these saddlebags were woven with intricate geometric patterns and vibrant colours, reflecting generations of traditional craftsmanship.

Deep reds, warm oranges, forest greens and delicate ivory embroidery come together against a rich black wool background, creating a striking celebration of Anatolian artistry. Each pattern and colour adds to the bag's distinctive character, preserving the beauty of its original woven design.

Thoughtfully transformed into a contemporary handbag, Kara İnci features an elegant amber-effect circular handle, bringing a modern touch to its rustic charm. The beautifully textured black reverse offers a timeless contrast to the colourful embroidered front.

What makes Kara İnci even more special is its connection to its sister bag, Kızıl İnci (Crimson Pearl). Both bags were lovingly created from two different sections of the very same vintage Anatolian saddlebag. Once part of a single textile, they have been given new lives as two individual creations, each carrying its own character while sharing the same history, heritage and soul.

By repurposing an original saddlebag, Kara İnci celebrates slow fashion, sustainability and the art of giving treasured textiles a second life.

No two vintage textiles carry exactly the same history, making each creation truly special.
