Caring for Your Carpet Bag

Our bags are made from 100% hand-woven vintage textiles, chosen for their beauty, character and durability. Many of these fabrics have been around for decades, and the small irregularities, faded colours and signs of age are all part of what makes each bag unique.

Cleaning

If your bag needs a clean, we recommend gently spot-cleaning where possible. It can also be carefully hand-washed in cool water with a mild detergent. Avoid bleach, harsh cleaning products, vigorous rubbing or wringing.

Once cleaned, gently reshape the bag and leave it to air-dry naturally.

If you get caught in the rain, don't worry, just make sure your bag is completely dry before storing it away.

Storage

When not in use, keep your bag somewhere cool and dry, away from prolonged direct sunlight.

As with many vintage and natural-fibre textiles, it is worth taking a little extra care when storing your bag for longer periods. Lavender sachets or cedar can be kept nearby to help deter moths and other fabric-loving insects. We recommend keeping them close to, rather than directly against, the textile.

A note on weight

These textiles are remarkably strong, that's part of the reason they have lasted so long. But they are still old fabrics, and we want them to continue their lives for many more years.

Please avoid overloading your bag or using it to carry particularly heavy items. For our larger tote bags, we recommend a maximum weight of 3 kg to help protect the fabric, handles and seams.

Most importantly, enjoy it

We don't believe these bags need to be kept perfect.

The textiles already have a life behind them. You may find an uneven thread, a faded patch, an old mark or other little signs of their past. With use, your bag will naturally soften and may pick up a few new marks along the way.

That's part of its story.

Treat it with care, but don't be afraid to use it.

The more it becomes yours, the more special it becomes.
